10: Idol
This Sunday, we continue our new year worship series, “10.” In the weeks between now and Lent, we’ll take a deep dive into Ten Commandments and explore how these ancient set of codes are relevant to our lives as Christians today. Check out week one, “No Other.”
Sermon Reflections:
- The Israelites created a golden calf as an idol. What are some ways that we in modern society create “idols” in our own lives?
- The church itself can sometimes become an idol. In what ways might your own church or faith community inadvertently become a source of idolatry?
- How can we recognize the humanity of pastors and other church leaders? How can we as congregants better support our leaders while also maintaining a healthy distance and avoiding the temptation to put them on pedestals?
- How can you strive to “reflect the image of God” in your own daily interactions with others?
- The sermon explores the idea of God’s image being reflected in humanity. How does this understanding challenge your views on issues like race, gender, and social justice?
- The sermon emphasizes the importance of prioritizing God above all else. How can you practically apply this principle to your daily life, whether it’s in your career, family relationships, or personal pursuits?
