Ash Wednesday
Ken Curtis   -

St. Stephen commemorated Ash Wednesday and the beginning of Lent on Feb. 14, 2024. In his message, Pastor Ken Curtis urged us to reflect on our lives, our shortcomings, and our sins, in preparation for the beginning of Lent as we look forward to the hope and resurrection of Easter.

Sermon Reflections:

  1. What resonated most with you from the sermon? Was it the story of David, the personal anecdote about cleaning your room, or something else entirely?
  2. Do you identify with the tendency to “clean up” your outward appearance while neglecting the interior? If so, what areas of your life might need some “closet cleaning”?
  3. The sermon mentions several examples of things we might hide in our “closets.” Which ones resonate most with you, and why? This could be grudges, jealousies, fears, or something else entirely.
  4. The sermon emphasizes God’s presence in our “dark places.” How can you create space for introspection and reflection in your daily life?
  5. What practical steps can you take to “clean out your closet” this week, and in the following weeks during Lent? This could involve prayer, journaling, forgiveness exercises, or spending time in nature.
  6. The sermon concludes with a prayer for a “new heart” and a “renewed spirit.” What does this mean to you, and how can you cultivate these qualities in your own life?
