Distorted: Understanding Prayer
We begin a new worship series: “Distorted: Misunderstood Passages of Scripture.” In today’s message from Senior Pastor Ken Curtis, we explore John 15:7 and Matthew 21:21-22 and try to understand what prayer means.
Sermon Reflections:
- What is your understanding of the purpose of prayer? Did the sermon confirm your understanding? Broaden it? Provide context? How?
- Reflect on a time when you prayed earnestly for something but didn’t receive the outcome you expected. How did you feel in that moment? How do you feel about it now?
- Pastor Ken suggests that prayer can lead us to action. Can you recall a time when your prayer for someone or something led you to take action?
- How do you reconcile the idea of unanswered prayers with the your belief in a loving and caring God? Can you imagine instances — or have you had experiences — where an unanswered prayer was the right answer all along?
- Think about the analogy of prayer being like a conversation with God, making to seeking comfort in a parents’ embrace when you are hurt. Does this resonate with your own experiences of prayer?
